As temperatures cool down across most of the United States, Kate Morgan writes that it’s nerve-wrecking to think about spending the dark months alone inside. While it’s certainly still possible to see people bundled up outdoors, folks might be wondering if it’s really so bad to start allowing indoor gatherings. Unfortunately, experts say it is. She writes:

There’s no way around it — getting together in an enclosed space is riskier than being outside. So, if you are thinking of bringing things indoors, you may have to be a lot more selective about the guest list. If your friends are taking more risks — or have more at stake — than you, it might not be a good idea to get together indoors. “If you have vulnerable people in your circle, you have to make choices,” says Anne W. Rimoin, PhD, professor of epidemiology and director of the Center for Global and Immigrant Health at UCLA’s Fielding School of Public Health. “Nobody gets to have their cake and eat it too, here.”
