The Covid-19 pandemic is hard for all health workers, including those who don’t treat patients with the virus. Diana Cejas, MD, writes about what it’s like to navigate seeing patients while personally worrying about the risks of contracting Covid-19. Cejas is immunocompromised due to her own history of serious medical issues including cancer and a debilitating stroke. Seeing people being treated for Covid-19 has brought back unwanted memories of her own experience in the ICU. “I was haunted by half forgotten dreams of drowning, nightmare memories from my time spent on a ventilator years ago,” she writes.
