Autopsies are considered a gold standard practice for making a diagnosis for how a person died. They are the best and often only way of seeing the damage a disease, like a novel virus, does to a body. Given the many ways Covid-19 impacts the body, it makes sense that autopsies would provide valuable information in this context.
