Three stories we’re reading about the coronavirus
- President Donald Trump called himself a “wartime president,” and Prime Minister Boris Johnson said all British people have “directly enlisted” in the battle against coronavirus. In the Atlantic, writer Yasmeen Serhan deftly argues that these wartime metaphors are dangerous because they breed fear and panic. She offers a smart alternative: “In Denmark, Queen Margrethe II likened the virus to a ‘dangerous guest,’ and urged Danes to ‘show our togetherness by keeping apart.’”
