Donald Trump Tests Positive for Covid-19. Here’s What We Know.

This comes after playing down the risk of the virus for months

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump have both tested positive for Covid-19. The president will begin quarantine in the White House. Trump shared his results over Twitter close to 1 a.m. and said the couple is “feeling good.” The positive test comes after Trump’s advisor Hope Hicks tested positive earlier on Thursday. Former vice president and presidential candidate Joe Biden has tested negative.

Trump, 74, is currently experiencing mild, cold-like symptoms.

“The president has to take care of himself. He’s a high-risk patient for this virus, and he needs to rest and pay attention for symptoms,” says Dara Kass, MD, an emergency medicine physician and associate professor of emergency medicine at Columbia University Medical Center.

Kass adds that it’s important that the president not be treated like a VIP and be treated with evidence-based medicine. “Because he is the president of the United States, there will be the temptation to give him every treatment we have available,” she says. “He needs to be respectful of the process.”
