Why is the agency so invisible to the public right now?

Where is the CDC? Public health experts are decrying the lack of public leadership from the CDC during the coronavirus pandemic. The agency has some of the smartest infectious disease experts in the United States and has been on the forefront of the response to most other national and global outbreaks. The agency has largely been replaced by the White House Coronavirus Task Force as the public-facing source for Covid-19 information. In an op-ed for Stat News, Sudip Parikh, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and executive publisher of Science, calls on the agency to be more visible.
